Abstract

The solution obtained by soaking the crushed fruit of semecarpus anacardium in a liquid such as methylated spirit, petrol, benzene, naphtha, ether, ethyl alcohol, or carbon tetrachloride, is treated with alkali, such as powdered sodium carbonate, to neutralize free acid. The extract so obtained may be used as a marking-ink, when it is applied in the usual way, and the mark touched with dry sodium carbonate or with a dilute solution of the alkali. The extract may be used as a dye.
