6286. Pearson, J. T. March 26. Yarns and fibres, conditioning.-Improvements on the invention described in Specification No. 7315, A.D. 1889. The material is laid between the folds of a damp cloth g, which is drawn from a reel f, passed through a water trough d and squeezing-rollers i,j, and laid on a table a. When the sheet on the table has been covered with material to be damped, a double fold of cloth is laid thereon by means of the rods l, w, of which l is temporarily secured in the side frames b and m is provided with handles whereby it may be drawn across the table by hand or by means of ropes n. The ropes n are wound on to a roller o, which is driven from the lower squeezing roller j by sprocket gearing, which may be disconnected, when desired. Upon the double fold of conditioning-cloth a second layer of material is laid, and over this another double fold of cloth, and so on, until the apparatus is full, the whole being then allowed to stand until the operation is complete. The cloth g may be passed directly to the rollers i,j, in which case it is damped by an endless band or cloth, which passes beneath a roller in the trough and over the lower squeezing-roller, or over a roller in contact therewith. Or both the conditioning-cloth and the auxiliary damping-cloth may be used, in which case the maximum amount of moisture is applied to the conditioning - cloth. Yarns of different counts may be separated from one another by transverse rods y, which may be slid into slots in the vertical supports, or be only laid on to the folds of cloth. As the pile of cloth and material increases in height, the sides of the machine may be enclosed by means of boards a<1>, which slide in grooves in the frame.
