Abstract

Switches, quick-action; handles.-Relates to snapaction switches wherein the actuating member 7, support 2 and contact carrier member, to which the contacts 19 are attached, are all of U-shape, the detent 12 is cylindrical, and the spring 16 is coiled round the pivot 11 of the actuator and of the switch-arm carrier and embraces with its outer ends the cross members of these two parts. In one position of rest, the detent 12 is held at one end, at the other, passes first through a slot in the actuator, then through a slot 14 in the support, and lastly into a recess in a slot in the carrier member. Actuation of the tumbler 28 turns the actuator and tensions the spring 16, but the carrier member is, at first, unable to move, as the bottom of the wall of the recess therein engages the detent below its centre. Near the end of the travel of the actuator, the curved portion 9' of the slot in it engages the detent to move it downwards sufficiently to cause the wall to press on it above its centre, when this pressure forces it lower still, and finally brings it collinear with the concentric slot in the carrier member. which member is then flung over by the tensioned spring till stopped by a shoulder 3 on the support 2 Removal of the finger from the lever 28 allows the actuator to set back slightly when the lower wall 9 of the slot in it pushes the detent into the recess at the other end of slot in the carrier. The lever 28 is pivoted on a projection on the plate 33 and connected to the actuator by a link 29. A slot in a housing formed on the plate 33 serves as a guide for the lever. In the complete Specification as accepted, Fig. 6 shows the contact carrier member 4 and the stop shoulders 5, by the engagement of the detent 12 with which shoulders movement of the carrier 4 is prevented until the spring 16 is sufficiently strained.
