12,604. Griffin, W. W. June 16. Brakes, back-pedalling. The chain-wheel C is loosely mounted on the crank axle, and is connected by links E to slotted arms D fixed thereto. The links E carry extensions e', which by backpedalling are caused to bear on a flange a on a disc loosely mounted on the crank axle. This disc is connected by a link f<2> to a brake lever f pivoted on the frame so as to apply the brake F during back-pedalling. An extension f allows the brake to be applied by the foot. A rim or band brake may be used in place of the tyre brake.
