Abstract

185,146. Dungan, S. M. March 22, 1921. Screw propellers.-The blades of screw propellers have elliptically convex front faces and are curved lengthways so that the line joining the root to the tip is tangential to the boss and is inclined relatively to a radial plane containing the propeller axes and the blade tip. The blades start at the forward end 4 a.t the hub 1, Fig. 3 and each section is elliptical and tangential as in Fig. 4, the section increasing toward the rear 5 so that the outer edge 3 is on a paraboloidal surface. The blades may be less than one complete turn as in Fig. 7, the tangent to the boss through the root and tip being inclined to the radial line.
