Abstract

179,919. Puglia, J., and Meunier, C. May 11, 1921, [Convention date]. Diffusion apparatus for liquids.-Milk is treated for the removal of chlorides by bringing it into contact with an osmotic diaphragm, the other side of which is in contact with warm water. A series of frames a - - d are bolted together with diaphragms f of osmotic material, such as paper treated with sulphides, between them. The frames c are filled with milk through the cock g, and the frames a, b, d with water through the cock h, the pressure being indicated by the level of the liquids in vertical tubes i, j. Other upright tubes are provided on the top of the frames c. The cocks are closed and water is then circulated through the pipes m, d', n, suction being applied to the pipe n. The. water may be heated but the temperature does not exceed 70‹ C. Thermometers are provided in the frames c, d.
