Abstract
1537235 Electromedical apparatus K B E DENTON 27 Feb 1976 [27 Nov 1974] 51282/74 Heading A5R Apparatus for cauterisation or other treatment of skin ailments, such as warts or verrucas, or removal of hypergranulated tissue, at an affected area of a human or other animal comprises a probe unit with a housing (13), Fig. 1 (not shown), of electrically insulating material containing an electrical circuit 16, 18 which is tuned to the frequency of an input signal from a source 10 and has an output directly connected to a probe element 14 which projects from the housing (13) and has a visually identifiable discharge area, such as a point, from which an arc discharge can take place onto said affected area. Source 10 is powered from a 12V D.C. or 240V A.C. supply and gives an output, e.g. of about 10 watts, at a frequency, which may be adjustable, in the range 50 KHz to 21,000 MHz, particularly about 7 MHz. The probe is connected to source 10 via co-axial cable 11 and the circuit comprises a step-up transformer 16, e.g. with a 20 to 1 ratio, which has a secondary 17 forming a tuned circuit with an adjustable capacitor 18. In use, capacitor 18 is adjusted, while the operator holds the probe unit, to resonance as indicated by an ammeter in the circuit of primary 15 reading maximum, element 14 is then placed in contact with the affected area, and thereafter element 14 is withdrawn a few millimeters from the affected area to establish an arc discharge thereto. The step-up transformer 16 together with the tuned circuit 17, 18 produce several thousand volts at the element 14.
