Abstract
A peptide of the formula X-A-B-Y where A and B are identical or different and in each case denote an amino acid residue or a peptide residue and where X denotes an amino protective group and where Y denotes one of the following carboxyl protective groups: tert-alkoxy group, benzyloxy, benzylamino and benzhydrylamino group, which is optionally substituted by an inert substituent, is prepared by reacting an amino acid or a peptide with an N-terminal protective group or a salt thereof of the formula X-A-OH with an amino acid or a peptide of a C-terminal protective group or a salt thereof of the formula H-B-Y in particular in the presence of a thiol proteinase enzyme or a serine proteinase enzyme in an aqueous solution having a pH at which the enzyme activity of the thiol proteinase or the serine proteinase is retained.
