Abstract

1514045 Filter B O ROSAEN and D P FOSDICK 14 July 1976 29220/76 Heading BID A tubular filter element 30 is mounted round the lower part of a perforated tube 26 which depends from a removable end cover 24 into a housing which comprises a T-junction or X-junction standard pipe fitting 16 into which is screwed a length of pipe 18. An annular flange 34 bridges the gap between a central part of tube 26 and the interior wall of the pipe 18 or of fitting 16 below the side opening 20, and carries a sealing ring 36. As shown the element 30 extends beneath the bottom of pipe 18, the whole depending into a reservoir (12, Fig. 1 not shown) with side opening 20 connected to the suction side of pump (14). In Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) pipe 18 is connected to the delivery side of a pump and encloses element 30 completely, outlet 20 leading to a reservoir. When a X-junction is used the extra side opening is closed by a plug or possibly connected to another pump. Plug 24 shown screws directly into fitting 16, but in Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) annular plug (122) is screwed permanently into the fitting, and a cover (124) from which tube 26 depends is bolted to the plug. Some bolt holes in the cover do not align with holes in the plug and are threaded, so that bolts may be screwed into them to force the cover up from the plug to break the seal when removing tube 26 and filter 30.
