Abstract
1505479 Water and water vapour adsorbing filter ALSTHOM ATLANTIQUE 1 Sept 1976 [24 Sept 1975] 36221/76 Headings B1L and BIT A drier for compressed air adapted for vertical suspension in use comprises a first chamber 1 containing a metallic fibre filter 20 and a second chamber 2 containing a water adsorbing material (e.g. alumina) 26, the first chamber having an inlet 16 for connection to a compressed air pipe, and an outlet 4 connected to the inlet of the second chamber 2; the second chamber further having an outlet connection 7 for connection to a compressed air storage reservoir wherein the chamber bodies -are detachably mounted to a mounting plate 5 adapted to be fixed to a support 14 (Fig. 4 not shown) for the drier, the mounting plate also serving a dual function of being a cover for the chambers and of providing the said inlets and outlets to the chambers I and 2. Two electrically operated valves 7 and 9 may be fitted, one to shut off air flow to the reservoir and valve 9 to allow air to pass from an auxilliary reservoir through line 8 to regenerate the filter and adsorbent by back flow of gas. The filter and adsorbent may be supported by screens 18, 19 and 24 and 25 on axial tubes 3 and 6. The chambers may be detached downwardly from beneath a railway carriage, (e.g. from the braking system).
