Abstract
1501216 Time switches ETABS CARPANO & PONS 13 May 1975 [14 May 1974] 20182/75 Heading H1N A programmer for washing-machines, for example, comprises a time-driven rotatable programming means, such as a cam block 1, a selector cam 7 coupled for rotation with the main programme cam 1 by lugs 4 and 6 which allow relative axial movement, and a control element 12 manually rotatable by knob 35 to a desired programme starting position. The angular setting of control element 12 causes ramps 22, 23 thereon to leave arcuate slots (27, 28, Fig. 3, not shown) in selector cam 7, thereby depressing cam 7 axially against spring 9. This allows lever 51 to be moved by spring 49 and close contacts 57 which may be wired to produce rapid advance of cam block 1 and with it selector cam 7. When the arcuate slots (27, 28) in cam 7 align with the ramps 22, 23 the cam 7 is restored axially by spring 9 as soon as follower portion 53 of lever 51 drops into a recess 39, 40, 50, or 41 corresponding to the start of the selected programme, and the respective incline 60, 61, 62 or 63 will cam lever 51 to open contacts 57 and stop the rapid advance. Momentum ensures that lever 51 is cammed to close contacts 56 which may be wired to provide normal programming timed drive. Follower 53 then follows the periphery 38 of cam 7 until it drops to level 44, 45 or 46 of a succeeding recess, corresponding to the end of the set programme, and lever 51 reverts to the OFF condition shown. Recess 50 is not stepped like recesses 39, 40 and 41 but is bridged by periphery 38 such that the programme starting at notch 40 continues till follower 53 enters notch 41; the incline 62 of recess 50 can, however, act as a starting cam and, if chosen, then only the latter portion of this programme is performed. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) the ramps on the control element (72) co-operate with slots (76) in an auxiliary member (77) to produce axial movement of the control element (72) and with it the selector cam (75), the auxiliary member being driven in unison with cam block 1 but not axially slidable. In a further embodiment (Fig. 11, not shown) the selector cam (81) and main cam block 1 are on an offset axis to that of the control element (82) and a twoarmed lever (89) urges selector cam (81) axially in response to axial movement of the control element (82). Instead of contacts 56 and 57 the lever 51 may actuate a gear change giving normal and rapid drives respectively.
