Abstract

Acetoacetylarylamides are prepared by reaction of primary aromatic amines, which are free from acidic solubilising groups, with diketene in water. An excess of diketene is used and the reaction is carried out at a temperature at which the process product is not present in the solid state of aggregation. A product of at least 99% purity is obtained, which is suitable as a coupling component for the preparation of azo pigments.
