Abstract
1436218 Explosively-actuated fastener driving tools OLIN SKI AG 6 Aug 1973 [7 Aug 1972] 37176/73 Heading B4C An explosively-actuated power tool such as for driving fasteners 2 into hard material comprises first and second removably-connected parts 1, 9 which can be adjusted axially, as by a screw connection 8, 10, to vary the volume of the expansion chamber formed between the propelling charge 13 and the rear end of the driving piston 4, a stop 16 being provided for stopping the driving piston when this is returned to its firing position, which stop is adapted to be pushed aside to allow withdrawal of the driving piston after the first and second parts have been disassembled. The stop 16 may be in the form of balls retained in radial holes 17 in the part 1 and pressed into the path of the driving piston 4 by the sleeve portion 19 of the part 9; alternatively the stop 16 may be in the form of a split ring having a rear conical portion. When axial adjustment is to be made to vary the power a locking ring 21 operating in a groove 23 is pulled back against the action of a spring 24 to disengage projections from recesses 27 in the end face of the part 9 and permit the two parts to be screwed relatively to each other. A safety bore 20 prevents operation should the parts be unscrewed too far. Indicia 25 may be read through a window 26. To remove the driving piston 4, the parts 1 and 9 are unscrewed and the driving piston allowed to drop out with the shoulder 28 of the driving piston pushing aside the balls 16.
