Abstract

1435854 Tandem master cylinders SOC ANON DBA 22 Aug 1974 [11 Sept 1973] 36999/74 Heading F2F In a tandem master cylinder 10, a control piston 16 and a floating piston 20 defines a first chamber 22 therebetween, connected to brake actuators via a connecting valve 38 or via a by-pass valve 40, the movable member 58 of which is actuated by transmission means to open the valve by the floating piston if pressure in a second chamber 24 between the piston 20 and an end of a main bore 14 is lower than in the first chamber. With operating pressures in both chambers 24, 22 fluid flows directly to brake actuators 34 for front brakes and via the valve 38, a modulating or limiting valve, e.g. dependent on vehicle load, to actuators 28 for rear brakes respectively. If a pressure failure occurs in the chamber 24, the piston 20 contacts a tappet 62 to open the valve 40 against a spring 60 to provide full pressure at the actuators 28.
