Abstract
1430491 Plate heat exchangers CHAFFOTEAUX ET MAURY 30 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 04376/74 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a stack of peripherally flanged circular plates 1 nested one within the other to define two series of flow spaces 9 therebetween for first and second heat exchange fluids, e.g. hot water from a central heating boiler and cold water to be heated for supply to hot water taps, each plate 1 has two openings 10 and 11 of different diameters each surrounded by a respective collar 12 and 13. The collar 12 surrounding the smaller opening 10 projects from the opposite surface of the plate to that surrounding the larger opening 11, and the plates of the stack are angularly displaced in stepwise fashion by 90 degrees. The difference in the diameters of the two collars is such that the smaller collar of one plate fits inside the larger collar of the facing adjacent plate of the stack so as to define transfer passages, e.g. 21, 22, for leading fluid from one space to the next in the series. The flanged rim 3 of each plate has a stepped configuration, and the plates are joined together in fluid-tight manner by means of brazing material 15, 16. Each plate is provided with a number of ribs or bosses 8 serving to impart turbulence to the heat exchange fluids as they flow through the spaces 9. The ends of the stack are connected to hemispherical domes 17 and 18.
