Abstract

1429861 Vincamine derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 26 March 1973 [29 March 1972 20 April 1972 17 May 1972 2 Feb 1973] 14442/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of Formula (VI) in which R is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group in the form of their various stereoisomers and nacenates they may be made by catalytically reducing a salt having a cation of Formula (V) which may be made by subjecting a compound of Formula (IV) to a Bischler-Napieralski ring closure. The compound of Formula (IV) above may be obtained by reacting a compound of Formula II in the presence of a basic condensation agent with compound of Formula (III) in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are C 1 -C 4 alkyl. The product of Formula (VI) may be converted to vincamine or apovincamine by subjecting it to ring closure in the presence of an acid.
