Abstract

1429076 Epoxy resin coating DOW CHEMICAL CO 13 March 1973 [13 March 1972] 11885/73 Heading C3B An epoxy resin coating is obtained by applying to a substrate an intimate mixture comprising: (I) an epoxy resin; (II) a polyol having more than one phenolic OH group per molecule; and (III) a catalyst for promoting the reaction of epoxy groups with OH groups. The coated substate is heated to at least 120‹ C. to obtain a cured coating. The proportions of I and II are selected to provide a cured resin having a M.W. # 15,000. I may be a liquid and may be dissolved in a liquid which is a non- solvent for the polyol and the catalyst. Alternatively the mixture may be applied to the substrate as a dry powder. I may be an epoxy novolac resin. II may be a bisphenol or a polyol obtained by reacting a diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol or an epoxy novolac resin with bisphenol A. III may be an ethyltriphenyl phosphonium acetate acetic acid complex.
