Abstract

1427232 Pipe joint covers; junction pieces E RASMUSSEN AS 7 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 1275/73 Heading F2G A cover for a joint 12 between two pipes 2, 4 each surrounded by insulation 8 enclosed within a plastics protective tube 10 comprises part-cylindrical shells 14 of plastics, each having continuous lengthwise edge flanges 16 engaged along their abutted edges by clamping cleat strips 24. The abutted faces of the edge flanges 16 either both have co-operating ribs and grooves 30, 32, Fig. 2, or one pair of their abutted faces has such ribs and grooves while the other is provided with a hinge 33. As shown, the joint 12 is a weld between the pipes 2, 4. The shells 14 are secured around the joint with the use of clamping tools 28, which are removed as the cleat strips 24 are slid or hammered home. Polyurethane foam is then introduced through holes 18. In a modification, the cleat strips 24 are replaced by copper &c. strips (34), Fig. 3, (not shown), which are crimped around the abutted edges of the edge flanges 16. The cover may be used around T-joints and elbow joints in junction pieces, Fig. 4 (not shown), the shells being divided into appropriate lengths.
