Abstract

1426445 Driving arrangements for dynamoelectric machines POTAIN 18 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 18819/73 Heading H2A An adjustable speed driving unit includes a driving shaft 2 and a rotor, e.g. a double-bell rotor 7, 10, which is associated with (1) a rotatable current-carrying element 1 to form an eddy current clutch 51, (2) with a stationary current-carrying element 8 to form an eddy current retarder 52 and (3) with a spring-biased electromagnet safety brake 53. The clutch element 1 is belt driven (18) by a constant speed motor 54 and carries a cooling fan 5. The end of the driving shaft 2 opposite the load 56, e.g. hoisting gear, carries a tachogenerator 20. Speed control is either manual (double potentiometer controlling current through the two elements 1, 8 in opposite sense) or automatic (operating on the difference between desired and indicated speeds). In another embodiment (Fig. 3) a single motor drives two adjustable speed driving units.
