Abstract
1425115 Reciprocating pumps and motors ABEX CORP 14 March 1973 [27 April 1972] 12287/73 Heading F1A A pump or motor has a by-pass controlled by a valve responsive to abnormal temperature conditions in the inlet or outlet. In the swash-plate pump or motor shown, comprising stepped pistons 37, Fig. 1, reciprocated in pumping chambers 51, 54 communicating with inlet 27 and outlet 28 via a pintle valve 49 and face valve 25, a by-pass passage 90, Fig. 3 communicates with outlet 28 via port 91 and inlet 27 via chamber 93 and port 94. A slide valve 100 has a land 101 controlling flow between port 91 and chamber 93, and is moved to the left into its closed position-by a spring 105, and to the right into its open position by a temperature-responsive member 107 having a plunger 109 engaging valve 100. Passages 96, 98 connect inlet 27 to chamber 97 containing member 107 so that rise in inlet temperature opens the by-pass valve 100. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a bi-metallic element responds to rising outlet temperature to open a spring-loaded slide valve.
