1417985 Mechanical switches CARR FASTENER CO Ltd 12 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 16835/72 Heading H1N In an electric switch actuated by a pivoted rocker 31, Fig. 1, having a tubular part 30 containing a spring-loaded plunger 40, a movable V-shaped contact strip 28 is pivotally supported at longitudinally spaced seats 26, 27 of a central electrical terminal contact 19 on which side parts 36, 37, Fig. 5, of the contact strip 28 rest. The seats 26, 27 may be integrally formed with a single central terminal 23 or may be separately integral with a pair of terminals 72, 73, Fig. 9, whereby a circuit between the terminals is completed when the strip 28 is in its central position. On tilting the rocker 31 in either direction, contact 28 is moved by the plunger 40 to selectively engage fixed contacts 17, 18. An embodiment is referred to in which each rocker 31 has a pair of plungers 40 for operating two contacts 28 co-operating with pairs of fixed contacts 17, 18. The contact 28 may have a central detented portion 38 whereby the rocker 31 has a centre stable position and two stable end positions. In a modification the centre portion 110, Fig. 11, may be upwardly bowed so that a snap changeover is obtained without a centre stable position. In further modifications one or both ends of the movable contact, Fig. 15, may have a steeply inclined portion 152 on one or both sides of the centre 150 whereby respectively one or two non- stable operating position are obtained. One of both end portions 51 may have the contact stud omitted and the end bent down to engage a non-contact making stop where no circuit is required to be closed in selected positions of the switch.
