Abstract
1408668 Operating mechanism for hermetic closure members BERNARD CALAIS SARL 29 June 1973 [3 July 1972] 31228/73 Heading E2M In an arrangement for the hermetic closure of an opening 1 in a wall 2, a leaf 3 slidably mounted on a rail 4 secured to the wall has two positions: a hermetic closure position in which seals around the leaf are pressed against the wall, and a position in which the leaf is raised out of engagement with the wall and is free to slide on the rail; a drive means provides the force to move the leaf between these positions and a linear electric motor moves the leaf along the rail. Primary 16a and secondary 16b elements of the linear motor are associated with the wall and leaf respectively. Guiding means (not shown) guide the leaf between the two positions and in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the drive means providing the upward force comprises a ram operated lever 6 having a roller 8 which engages an inclined surface 5 carried by the leaf. In this embodiment the linear motor elements are secured to the wall and to the leaf and cooperate only in the free sliding position of the leaf on the rail 4 (Fig. 2 not shown). At the ends of the rail 4 limit switches 17, 18 to stop the linear motor, and damping switches 19, 20 to reverse the motor current just prior to stopping are provided. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3, 7 the elements 16a, 16b of the linear motor can slide over each other and are guided to cooperate in all positions of the leaf; Fig. 7 shows the leaf in the free sliding position. Element 16b is mounted along the length of the leaf, and element 16a is free to slide along a wall-mounted rail 36 between end stops 36a, 36b. A rod 34 links primary element 16a to a lever 32 which can pivot about an axis 33 on the wall and acts via a roller 35 to lift the leaf from its hermetic sealing position to its free sliding position. Fig. 3 shows the apparatus in the closed position with the leaf sealed to the wall on the right and element 16a against end-stop 36a. Power supplied to element 16a causes this element to move to the right along rail 36, pivoting the lever 32 to lift the leaf out of its sealing position (Fig. 4. not shown). When the leaf has been moved to its free sliding position element 16a is brought to rest against stop 36b and acts on element 16b to move the leaf in an opening movement to the left. To close the leaf power to the element 16a is reversed and the element slides along rail 36 to the left until brought to rest against stop 36a, in which position a latch 43 engages a lug 42 to lock the lever 32 (Fig. 5, not shown). Element 16a then acts on element 16b to move the leaf to the closed and sealed position on the right and a finger 44 on the leaf unlocks the latch 43 (Fig. 3). Each edge of the leaf is provided with a spring element which cooperates with a pneumatic damping device 46 in each limit position.
