1406606 Safety cap for dispensers E J TREANOR 3 Aug 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 37021/71 Heading B8T A dispenser 10, Fig. 1, is covered with a bayonet-fit safety cap, Fig. 6 by means of the co-operation between lugs 22, Fig. 2, on the rolled edge 14, Fig. 1, of the dispenser with recessed lugs 25, Fig. 6, on the cap, The lugs 22, 25 each have complementary inclined surfaces such that rotation of the cap causes the lugs 22, 25 to engage so that the lugs 25 are cammed downwardly against the bias of resilient fingers 29 which are bent against dispenser top wall part 16. When the lugs 22 are aligned with the recesses in the upper edges of the lugs 25 the latter spring upwardly with the bias of the fingers to engage the recesses around the lugs 22. To remove the cap it must first be depressed against the bias of the fingers 29 and then rotated. In modifications the lugs 22 may be formed on a detachable plastics ring, may be bounded on all sides by the rolled edge 14 or may merely be formed by deforming the edge rather than piercing it. In one form the lugs 22, 25 may take the form of co-operating teeth (see Specification 1,104,001). The cap may have an outer depending cylindrical wall to engage the rolled edge 11 with the co-operating lugs being formed on the edge 11 and the outer wall, in which case the resilient fingers 29 can engage top wall part 12. The position of the lugs 22, 25 can be reversed.
