1406444 Display packages; cartons DRG PACKAGING Ltd 2 May 1973 [3 May 1972] 20547/72 Headings B8C and B8P In a package comprising an open-topped tray 10 consisting of a bottom 12, upwardly divergent side walls 14, 16 with a peripheral rim 18, and a top panel 20 sealed to the rim 18, the top panel 20 is extended at one side to provide a downwardly-extending panel 22 at rightangles thereto and a support panel 24 turned back parallel to the top panel 20 and adhered to the bottom panel 12. As shown in Figs. 2, 3 the package can be supported on a level surface 28 for display purposes either on the panel 22 or, on one of its adjacent sides 14 supported by the rim 18 and the corresponding side edge of the panel 22. The panel 22 can be shaped so that the package can either stand upright or, can lean slightly forwardly or rearwardly. In a modification, Fig. 5 an extension of the panel 20 is first turned, at 34, under the rim 18 to extend downwardly along the side wall 16 and then outwardly, at 38 before being return bent, at 40, and adhered to the tray bottom 12. The parts 34, 36 of the panel 20 may be adhered to the container and the parts 38, 40 may be adhered together. In a further modification, Fig. 4, not shown, a support is provided by a bottom panel (30) which may be corrugated and which is secured to the bottom panel (12). The base of the container may be recessed to receive the corresponding portion of the support member. The tray 10 is formed, e.g. from sheet thermoplastic injection - moulded, on coldpressed, material, and the top panel is formed, e.g. of fibreboard. A pulse tab is formed by a slit 26 in the panel 22.
