Abstract
1406112 Chromizing ferrous substrates ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 12 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 39842/72 Divided out of 1405878 Heading C7F A ferrous substrate is chromized by contacting it with a chromium source, a metal halide and a metal oxide, heating to 450 to 750‹C for 4 hours and then to at least 800‹C. The oxide, which decarburizes the substrate, may be iron oxides, and may be a powder or present as a coating on the substrate, e.g. by heating in air. The chromizing powder may be embedded in the substrate, e.g. by rolling, applied with an adhesive or fed between laps of a coil as it is being wound. The adhesive may be a solution of a metal halide.
