Abstract
1406072 Rolling mills NIPPON STEEL CORP 24 Aug 1972 [24 Aug 1971 29 July 1972] 39403/72 Heading B3M A three-roll rolling mill for rolling metal sections has a pair of undriven inclined rolls and a horizontal driven roll whose axes form the sides of a triangle. In one arrangement, Fig. 4, the inclined rolls 3a, 3b are mounted in chocks 4a, 4b within a frame 1, Fig. 1. The frame is vertically adjustable within the mill housing and one chock (4a is adjustable vertically in the frame (by wedges 9a, 9b) whereas the other chock 4b is adjustable horizontally (by threaded shafts 21). The frame 1 can be removed from the housing by supporting it on the chocks of the lower roll 2, and shifting the assembly by a truck. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 9, the inclined rolls 103a, 103b are supported in a frame 102 which is removable from the mill housing. The chocks of the inclined rolls are urged by balancing units 113 upwardly against a beam 112, the beam being acted on by screwdown assemblies. Each chock is laterally adjustable by threaded shafts and is balanced hydraulically. The lower roll 104 is adjusted by screwdowns 148. The frame 102 has shelves 118 for supportthe inclined rolls during roll changing. The three rolls may be shaped to form passes suitable for rolling T-sections, Y-sections or L-sections (Figs. 6 to 8, not shown).
