Abstract

1486665 Holder for a door S P SIMMONS 23 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2993/75 Heading E2A A holder 10, Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, for limiting the opening of a door 22 with respect to a doorframe 24 comprises a latch plate 14 for securement to the doorframe 24, said latchplate 14 including a mounting-plate 16 and a rolled-end 18 having an engagement opening 20 therein, and a structure 12 for mounting upon the door 22, said structure 12 comprising a base 26, a guide 38 pivotally mounted to said base 26, and an engagement link 56 slidably mounted with respect to said guide 38, the engagement link 56 being slidable from a retracted to an extended position, being provided with a stop 52 which engages a slot 54 in the guide 38 to limit the amount it can slide out of the guide 38, and having an engagement portion 62 which can enter the engagement opening 20 in the latchplate 14 when the door 22 is closed and the engagement link 56 is extended with respect to the guide 38. The base 26 has flanges 30, 32 which carry a pivot-pin 44 for a cylindrical portion 42 of the guide 38, and has a flange 34 which forms a stop 36 for the link 56. An intermediate link 50 is mounted within side flanges 46, 48 of the guide 38 so that it can slide from the retracted position of Figs. 1, 2 and 4 to the extended position of Figs. 3 and 5, and is provided with edges 50a to provide a channel for the link 56. A slot 58 is formed in the link 50 and a knob 60, which is mounted on the link 56, passes therethrough. Thus endwise limits are provided for the link 56 with respect to the link 50 when the holder is moved to the retracted position or to the extended position. When the door 22 is moved from the open position in Fig. 3 to a closed position, link 56 slides relative to the link 50 and the latter slides with respect to the pivoted guide 38. The latter then pivots about the base 26 and the links 56, 50 are positioned within the flanges 30. 32 of the base 26, Fig. 2. If the door is to be fully opened the knob 60 is moved to the right to disengage the portion 62 of the link 56 from the opening 20 in the latchplate 14 and the link 56, having a slot 63 therein, clears the stop 52 and extends into engagement with the stop 36, Fig. 4, so as to retain the structure in the position shown in Fig. 1. The opening 20 in the latchplate 14 and the engagement portion 62 of the engagement link 56 may be 'T'-shaped.
