1476474 Coin packaging apparatus GLORY KOGYO KK 21 May 1974 22513/74 Heading B8C Coin packaging apparatus, Fig. 1, comprises a coin feeding device 1, a counting device 19 for counting the coins fed from the device 1, a device 2 for stacking the counted coins, a device 4 for wrapping the stack with a wrapper sheet, a fold-crimping device for fold-crimping the lateral edges of the sheet wrapped around the coin stack, a coin denomination selecting device 8 for setting the apparatus in accordance with a selected denomination of coins to be packaged and operatively coupled to all the aforesaid devices to adjust them in accordance with the size of the coin set, and a coin number presetting device coupled to the device 8 to set the number of coins to be packaged in accordance with the selected denomination of coins, the device 19 being coupled to the coin number presetting device so as to be operated to stop the feed of coins once said preset number has been counted. As described coins of a selected denomination are placed in a hopper 11 and fed by a conveyer 12 to a rotating disc 13. A sensor 14 stops the conveyer 12 if too many coins are present on the disc, and a wall 15 ensures that only one layer of coils is present. The coins are thrown centrifugally into a passage along which they are carried by an endless belt 18 to the counting member 19 and then to an operation selector 3. If the machine is to be used for packaging the coins the selector 3 is in the position shown to direct coins via a shoot 306 into a stacking cylinder 200. If however the machine is to be used to count coins only the selector 3 is slid longitudinally so that the coins enter a shoot 303 and leave the machine. In packaging, a stack of a predetermined number of coins is formed in the cylinder 200 and then shutters 250 are opened to let the stack fall on to a support rod 29, Fig. 10, which is next lowered to locate the stack between wrapping rollers 20-22. The rollers are moved inwardly to engage the stack and rotate it and simultaneously a length of wrapper is fed from a roll 5, Fig. 1, via rollers 31, 32, Fig. 10, into contact with the stack and is wrapped therearound by the rollers. The edges of the wrapper are fold-crimped about the top and bottom of the stack by hooks 23, 24. A knob 820, Figs. 1 and 10, is provided on the machine which can be turned to set the machine for dealing with coins of a prescribed denomination. Rotation of the knob causes cams carried by a shaft 36 attached thereto to adjust the sensor 14, the height of the wall 15 above the table 13, the width of the passageway for the coins, and the number of coins passed by the counting member 19 before it is held and stops further coin feed. Rotation of the knob 820 also causes rotation of a further shaft 827, Fig. 24, by a motor M2 until this shaft is also in a position corresponding to the preset coin denomination. The shaft 827 drives cam means K4 to K9 which respectively adjust the diameter of the stacking cylinder 200, adjust the positions of the wrapping rolls 20-2, adjust the positions of wrapper guides adjacent the wrapper rolls, adjust the spacing of the crimp-fold hooks 23, 24, adjust the rotational speed of the wrapping rolls, and adjust the speeds of the disc 13, and belt 18. A further selector determines from which magazine 700, Fig. 1, of a plurality thereof movable around a track 707 the wrapper is fed. Alarm means are also included which indicate faulty operation of various parts of the apparatus.
