Abstract
1472255 Molybdenum additive for steel bath MUREK Ltd 3 June 1974 [15 June 1973] 28568/73 Headings C7A and C7D An additive for a steel bath with a composition of:- is made by mixing the ingredients with a binder of molasses, starch, dextrine or tar, with or without a water addition, briquetting and firing the mixture at 850-1350C to produce a briquette with a density of 2À5-5À0 depending on the amount of binder and firing temperature used. These briquettes, when added to molten steel baths, float at the steel/slag interface to permit dissolution of the Mo without oxidation losses. The Mo-containing material may be MoO 3 , pure or from roasted ore or ammonium molybdate, and the iron which should have a particle size of below 30 mesh may be mill scale, FeO or ground iron. Optimum firing temperatures are 1150- 1350C.
