Abstract
1465516 Cooling liquids in bulk ALFALAVAL INDUSTRIETECHNIK GmbH 12 July 1974 [14 July 1973] 30971/74 Heading F4S Freshly milked milk is at once cooled in a first cooling stage to substantially 15 C. before it passes into a storage tank 6. On tormination of the milk supply, the stored milk is continuously recycled in a second cooling stage until cooled to about 4 C. In the circuit shown the fresh milk entering at line 1 immediately flows to a heat exchanger 3 wherein the milk is cooled to 15 C. before entering the storage tank 6 via a pipe 5 terminating near the bottom of the tank. A non- return valve 15 ensures that all the fresh milk passes directly to the heat exchanger. When the fresh milk supply (through line 1) terminates, a pump 13 is started and (owing to the provision of a non-return valve 2 in the line 1) the contents of the tank 6 are recycled continuously through the heat exchanger 3 (now operating to cool the milk to a lower temperature) until the stored milk temperature is at about 4 C. Operation of the pump may be by means of a time switch and/or by a thermostat in the storage tank. 7 and 11 are couplings enabling the storage tank to be removed and conveyed to an emptying point.
