Abstract

1455601 Heating apparatus MAERZ OFENBAU GmbH 16 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973] 02103/74 Heading F4B Heating apparatus, e.g. for preheating scrap comprises three connected containers 7a, 7b and 7c, with covers 2, 3, and 4; gases generated by a burner under cover 2 flowing through pits 13 and 15 to container 7b, then via pipe 5 to container 7c and exhausting through pipe 17. Covers 2, 3 and 4 are suspended from an hydraulically operated frame 1 and the containers are intermittently advanced under their raised covers so that a cooler container in the line takes the place of a hotter container and the fully heated charge in the leading vessel 7a is conveyed to the melting furnace. Forward transportion of the containers may be effected by a system comprising stationary beams 18 and interconnected hydraulically operated moving beams 19 on either side of the containers. Alternatively the containers may be on roller vehicles, the bases of which are permanently fitted with exhaust gas funnels having outlet openings connected by spring sealing surfaces to associated gas transferring and exhaust ducts. The containers may be thermally insulated with an inner liner of non-scaling alloy steel and the pervious bottom may consist of a mesh screen, bar grate or segmental gate. Cooling air or exhaust gas may be introduced into cover 2 to regulate the temperature.
