Abstract
1454184 Lubrication ASSA AB 18 Sept 1974 40755/74 Heading F2A A method of periodically automatically applying lubricant to lubrication points 17 of a vehicle, comprising the steps of supply electrical power and/or signals to a control unit 5 when predetermined equipment in the vehicle is actuated (e.g. via switches 6, 6<SP>1</SP>), operating a counter when said power and/or signals are supplied so as to measure pre-determined intervals of time during which the vehicle is operating, and actuating a valve 9 to cause lubricant to flow from a lubricant reservoir 3 to the lubrication points 17 at the end of predetermined intervals of time measured by the counter. In the embodiment the switches 6, 6<SP>1</SP> are closed by the ignition key and the handbrake respectively. When the valve 9 is operated electrically it allows air pressure in a tank 7 to operate a differential piston 25, 26, Fig. 3 (not shown) in a pump 11 which force-feeds lubricant from a chamber 27, through a valve unit 12, along a distribution line 15 to a number of metering units 18 which supply the lubrication points 17. A pressure measuring device 19 indicates to the control unit 5 that the lubrication cycle is complete. A shuttle piston 30 and three non-return valves allow the pressure in the distribution system to dissipate and the metering chamber 27 to refill from the reservoir 3.
