Abstract

1451951 Organopolysiloxane coated sodium perborate DOW CORNING Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [22 Jan 1973] 3248/73 Addition to 1378874 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions C3 C5 and Dl] A foam control substance comprises finely divided i.e. free flowing particles of sodium perborate surface coated with an organopolysiloxane antifoam composition. The sodium perborate may be of the type incorporated into detergent compositions as a bleaching agent. Generally the antifoam compaction comprises a diorganopolysiloxane, e.g. dimethylpolysiloxane in admixture with a finely divided inorganic filler, e.g. silica and aluminium oxide. The foam control substance may be made by mixing the sodium perborate and antifoam composition in, e.g. a ribbon blender. In order to retain the free flowing nature of the foam control substance the proportion of antifoam composition should not exceed 29% by weight of the weight of the sodium perborate. The foam control substances are useful as foam control agents in aqueous systems and, in particular, they may be incorporated into detergent compositions of the powder type where they function to control the amount of foam generated during washing (see Division C5).
