Abstract
1451227 Tyre and wheel assemblies V M BETANCOURT 29 Nov 1973 55531/73 Heading B7C A tyre and wheel assembly comprises an outer pneumatic tyre 10 with a grooved tread 19 mounted between an axially outer pair of generally radial flanges 12 on the wheel rim, and an inner tyre 13 having a grooved tread 21 and located within the outer tyre 10 for supporting the outer tyre should the latter become deflated the inner tyre 13 being mounted between an axially inner pair of radial flanges 14 on the wheel rim radially coextensive with the flanges 12, and a valve 23 being provided on the wheel rim between one of the flanges 12 and the adjacent one of the flanges 14 to facilitate inflation of the outer tyre 10. In the Fig. 1 embodiment the inner tyre 13 is also a pneumatic tyre and a further valve 22 is mounted on the wheel rim between the flanges 14 for inflating the inner tyre. Both the inner and the outer pneumatic tyre may be provided with a carcass of radial cords. Alternatively, (Fig. 2, not shown), the inner tyre may be a solid elastomeric tyre whose tread is spaced from that of the outer pneumatic tyre 10 when the latter is inflated.
