Abstract
1450424 Increasing yields of crops HERSHEY FOODS CORP 2 Oct 1973 [13 Nov 1972 18 Sept 1973] 46001/73 Heading C1B The yield of a wide range of crops may be increased by treating a plant (defined) with active spores of Bacillus uniflagellatus (ATCC No. 15,134) which are defined as those spores which, after germination and growth in root exudate, release an antibiotic substance which is that produced by the procedure described in U.S.A. Specification No. 3,617,448 and which may be assayed by the method disclosed therein. The spores may be commingled with the plant seeds before planting and may be coated with the antibiotic derived from Bacillus uniflagellatus (ATCC No. 15,134) or the leaves of the plant may be sprayed with the active spores, which may be washed into the soil surrounding the plant. The spores may be applied in the form of a dried mixture with the culture medium in which the antibiotic material has been produced, or the spores may be dispersed on a powdered carrier.
