Abstract

1448975 Casting processes STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 27 May 1975 23199/75 Heading B3F [Also in Division G2] A sleeve 19 for joining two optical fibres is made by introducing Wood's metal into a PTFE mould 10 suspended in a hot water bath 18 by a tensioned stainless steel wire 13 extending through the mould, the metal being dispensed from a hypodermic syringe immersed in the water. After closing the mould with a lid 12, the mould is removed from the water, allowed to cool, the sleeve 19 pushed out of the mould and the wire 13 pulled out of the sleeve.
