Abstract
1444821 Equalizer for partial response signals SIEMENS AG 1 Oct 1973 [5 Jan 1973] 45711/73 Heading H4R In an equalizer for a transmission system employing partial response signalling tap gains of a transversal filter are adjusted by correlation of an error signal derived from the equalizer output with a signal from an adder combining signals from more than one tap of the equalizer delay device. As described the signal is of the form where a "1" is transmitted as the sequence "+1, 0, - 1," and the signal received from the transmission system is applied to the shift register having stages 26, 27, 28, connected by variable gain amplifiers 45, 46, 47, 48 to an adder 23 from which the output of the equalizer is derived. The equalizer output feeds both directly, and via a theoretical value detector and inverter 37 to the respective inputs of the adder 24 so as to derive an error signal which is fed to the correlators 35, and 36. Also fed to the correlators are signals from adders 21 and 22 each of which derives its inputs from points on the shift register spaced by two stages, and the output of the correlators is used to modify the gain settings of the respective amplifiers 47, 48. The shift register 26, 27, 28 and amplifiers 45, 46, 47, 48, remove the pre-pulse distortion while post pulse distortion is removed by the shift register 30, 31, 32, 33, and variable gain amplifiers 49, 50, which portion of the equalizer is the subject of the Specification 1,444,322.
