Abstract

1338989 Syringes R DEROUINEAU 8 Aug 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 36936/72 Heading A5R A portable motorised syringe comprises a syringe driven by a motor 8 mounted on a base 1 having openings 2 for the passage of straps for fixing to the body of a patient. A battery 7 for the motor is contained in a housing 4 on which is threaded a head 13 which controls a contactor 11 connected to one pole of the motor 8 by a wire 14, the other contact 15 of the battery being connected to the motor by a wire 16. The motor 8 has a fin 18 which engages with a flattened end portion 23 of a screw 22 located at the centre of the drive shaft 20 of a plunger 21 of an ampoule 9. A groove 24 is formed in the shaft 20 and receives the end of a fixed pin (25) mounted on a support 26 of the ampoule whereby rotation of the screw 22 causes rectilinear movement of the plunger. The end piece 28 of a catheter 29 is fixed onto the ampoule 9. A protective cover may be provided for the syringe. The speed of injection by the syringe may be varied either by changing the speed of the motor by means of a variable resistor or by changing the pitch of the screw 22. The ampoule 9 filled with the required drug, its support 26 and catheter 29 may be supplied in a sterilized package.
