Abstract
1337103 Toy motor cars MATTEL Inc 8 June 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 26729/72 Heading A6S A stabilizer leg 101 is provided at the rear of a toy car, &c. subjected to high initial acceleration by its motor to simulate a "dragster" racing vehicle. As shown, the stabilizer leg 101 is of generally H-shape with upper pivots 107 journalling it in the car body 13 and transverse pegs 109 at its lower end sliding within the side walls 89 of a track 87 to impose lateral stability upon the car. The pivotal movement of the stabilizer 101 is limited in the upward direction by its engagement with an edge of the car body. Alternatively, the stabilizer 101 may be rigid with the car body. As the car accelerates, its front road wheels 37 lift from the track 87 and it is guided by the stabilizer 101. The motor 64 is powered by a spiral spring wound upon pulling a cord 67 and driving through a train of gears including a gear pair 53, &c carried by a shaft journalled in slots 59 allowing gear disengagement in the usual manner during winding. A simulated engine 23 is attached by a rivet to the top of the car body 13, which is moulded or cast in two parts from plastics or metal secured together by some welding or adhesive. The driving wheels 43 are provided with flat rubber tyres 47 simulating racing tyres. Additionally, a detachable snap-fit flat strip weight (123), Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), shaped to the front of the car, may help hold the front road wheels down. The car may instead run on the ground. The leg, &c may also be applied to a tricycle.
