Abstract

1328017 Caseless cartridges HERCULES Inc 6 July 1971 31767/71 Heading F3A A caseless cartridge comprises one or more consumable snap rings 46 holding a projectile 42 against movement in a sleeve of propellant 40. A plug of propellant 38 containing a primer 39 and a booster 39<SP>1</SP> acts as a rearward abutment. A sleeve or strips of combustible material 50, or a shoulder in the sleeve of propellant (Fig. 1, not shown), constitutes a forward abutment. The rings 46 are formed of pressboard paper, Kraft paper containing 70% PETN or sheet propellant.
