Abstract
1322656 Thermal regenerators CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES-CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 9 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970 27 May 1971] 42085/71 Heading F4K In a reversible thermal regenerator wherein a gas to be heated (e.g. reformed gas from a cracking plant) flows through cells 1, 2 alternately whilst the other cell is being simultaneously heated up e.g. by hot gases from burners 3, 4, the gas to be heated enters the cells at one end thereof e.g. via conduits 13, 14 and the heated gas leaves the cells at their other end thereof where the two cells are interconnected e.g. by a duct 21, the cell which is being heated up being maintained at a lower pressure than the cell in which gas is being heated. This it is said obviates the need for a reversing valve in the outlet path 21, 22 of the heated gas. A further arrangement is described (Fig. 2) in which the cells are disposed end to end in a common casing, the gas to be heated entering the casing at the ends thereof and the heated gas being withdrawn at a median zone of the casing. In the arrangement shown, the burners 3, 4 are supplied with natural gas and combustion air via conduits 5, 6, 7, 8 controlled by valves 9, 10, 11, 12; and the cooled combustion gas leaves the cells via conduits 17, 18 controlled by valves 19, 20. Valves 15, 16 control the inlet conduits 13, 14 to the cells for the gas to be heated. The cells contain refractory brick chequers and may be purged during the changeover period.
