Abstract
1318853 Tunnelling HELD & FRANCKE BAU AG 14 Jan 1971 1858/71 Heading E1F A method of constructing a tunnel involves driving auxiliary galleries 2 extending in the lengthwise direction of the tunnel to be formed, spaced apart from another in dependence of the width of the finished tunnel and disposed in the region of the roof of said tunnel; forming a row or rows of anchor piles 4 which extend downwardly into the soil from each gallery to provide on each side of the tunnel a pile wall; filling each auxiliary gallery with concrete 6; top-heading the tunnel by excavating soil from between the galleries; installing roof arches 7 as the excavation progresses and excavating the soil beneath the top heading to progressively form the floor and side walls of the tunnel by full face working.
