1317092 Dynamo-electric machine windings BREUER ELEKTRONIK GmbH & CO KG 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 23519/71 Heading H2A A dynamo-electric machine winding is formed by folding concertina-fashion an insulating film 13 (Fig. 4) carrying a conductor 14 which extends in a single uninterrupted run over the surface of the film and which is arranged so that, after folding of the film (Fig. 3) a plurality of spaced coils are produced, adjacent coils giving rise to magnetic fields of opposite senses when the conductor is energized. The folded film of Fig. 3 is rolled into a cylinder and secured either to a surface of an annular slot in a ferrite block 1 or to a rotor disc 5 to form the stator or rotor winding 3, 4 (Fig. 2) of a cylindrical air gap stepping motor. In another embodiment (Figs. 5-8, not shown), for use in a planar air gap machine, the conductor-carrying film is folded concertina-fashion first along one set of parallel lines (12) and then along another set (15) normal to the first. The conductor is arranged to produce a number of angularly-spaced coils and is connected at its ends to printed commutator segments (10). The conductor may extend for one or more runs over the film 13. Conductors may be provided on both faces of the film, and several films may be superposed before folding. Adjacent folded portions are insulated from each other by varnish or by a further insulating film, and the winding is consolidated by casting, cladding or heat treatment. The film itself may be of magnetic material, or such material may be applied to the film.
