Abstract
1316259 Bicomponent filaments IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 37789/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] A sheath/core conjugate filament has a core consisting of a fibre-forming linear polyamide or copolyamide and a sheath consisting of a copolyester or copolyamide containing poly- (alkylene oxide) residues in a proportion of no less than 5 parts by weight per 100 parts of the final copolyester or copolyamide. The sheath preferably occupies between 5 and 33% of the cross-sectional area of the filament. The poly- (alkylene oxide) residue is preferably poly-(ethylene oxide) or poly-(propylene oxide) and has a preferred molecular weight of from 1000 to 6000. The core component in the examples is nylon 6.6, the exemplified copolyester sheath being prepared from ethylene glycol, poly-(oxyethylene) glycols and terephthalic acid and the exemplified copolyamide sheath from hexamethylenediamine, adipic acid and a diamine prepared from polyoxyethylene glycol, thionyl chloride and ammonia. Yarns prepared from these filaments are shown to be antistatic and antisoil.
