Abstract
1315866 Spray producers AFA CORP OF FLORIDA 8 Dec 1970 [7 Aug 1970] 57165/70 Heading B2F [Also in Division Fl] In a liquid dispensing apparatus wherein a pump 5 draws liquid from a container through a tube 13 and one-way valve 24 and delivers liquid through a duct 26, a one-way outlet valve 35 and an orifice 31 in a nozzle 30, the position of the nozzle 30 is adjustable between a position in which the one-way outlet valve 35 works normally to deliver liquid through orifice 31 and a position in which the one-way outlet valve 35 is held permanently closed to prevent operation of the pump and leakage from the container during transportation. The one-way outlet valve 35 comprises an externally ribbed sleeve which is closed at one end 37 and at the other end has a valve face 46 engageable with a valve seat 47 formed on the pump body 1. During normal operation of the dispensing apparatus the valve face 46 abuts the valve seat 47 during the suction stroke of the pump and during the discharge stroke of the pump the valve sleeve moves axially until a shoulder 43 thereon abuts a shoulder 51 on a surrounding sleeve 27. Liquid is thus permitted to flow from the duct 26 through a space between the valve face 46 and the valve seat 47 and through ducts 43, 42, 39, 38 to the orifice 31. When the dispensing apparatus is not in use a cap 29 is screwed further onto the pump body 1 and thus moves the nozzle 30 and valve sleeve 35 right to hold the valve face 46 in engagement with the valve seat 47. To prevent discharge of liquid from the pump. Tangential ducts 39 are formed in the end face 37 of the valve element and lead into a swirl chamber 38 adjacent the orifice 31. If the nozzle 30 is positioned so that during pump discharge the end face 40 of the valve element 35 abuts the nozzle the liquid passes through the ducts 39 and swirl chamber 38 to leave the orifice 31 as a spray but if the nozzle is adjusted so that a space exists between the end face 40 and the nozzle the liquid leaves the orifice as a jet. An air intake is provided into the container through ducts (21, 22) in a cap 14 and a flange 12 of the inlet valve 24. A conical rubber seal 18 permits the air to enter the container but prevents liquid leaving the container through the air intake ducts.
