Abstract

1311879 Spray carburettors PLESSEY CO Ltd 29 May 1970 [25 June 1969] 32009/69 Heading F1B In an I. C. engine fuel injection system with an ultra-sonic vibrator 9, Fig. 1 for atomizing fuel injection by a nozzle 4 into an air flow duct 1, a fuel feed device maintains a continuous fuel flow to the nozzle which emits, in the absence of ultra-sonic vibrations, a solid jet 6 which is intercepted by a collector 8 connected to a fuel return line and timing control device 10 controls the energization of the ultra-sonic vibrator 9 in each of successive cycles determined by the revolution of the engine for a period, shorter than the cycle, whose length is variable to comply with varying fuel requirements of the engine. Fuel is supplied by a pump 11 at a pressure controlled by valve 13, to the nozzle 4 and the solid jet 6 entering collector 8 is returned to tank 12 by centrifugal pump 14. The timing control device may be an engine-driven distributor switch device.
