Abstract

1310023 Structural lattice work A R LAMB 30 July 1971 [5 May 1970] 21679/70 Heading E1K Lattice work building structures for supporting a ceiling and/or floor comprises upper and lower openwork structures 1, 2 secured together in superimposed relationship, by intermediate struts 3, the upper openwork structure being a grid formed from bar section beams 4 which are of a common length, and are arranged in two mutually transverse sets with the ends of the beams connected by connectors 5 each secured to the end of a beam of one set and connected to the mid-portions of a beam of the other set. The lower structure is similarly constructed from strips 12 and connectors 13. The connectors 5 each comprise a profiled, member of U section secured to each end of each beam 4 and adapted to be bolted to the mid-point of another beam 4, together with either the connector of a further beam or, if at the edge of the lattice, a clamping plate 11, the connectors 5 and plates 11 being shaped to fit partially around the mid point of the beam to which they are bolted. The connectors 13 may be in the form of either a pair of short plates 13a where, as at the edge of the lattice, it is only necessary to connect one strip end to a strip mid-portion, or a pair of longer plates 13b where two strip ends meet at the mid-point of a strip. In the former case, the plates are bolted to both strips whereas in the latter case the plates are bolted only to the opposed strip ends. The intermediate struts 3 are diagonal and may be supplemented at main support areas, e.g. where a load-bearing reinforcing structure 20 or a column 25 is built into the lattice work, by vertical beams 23, 28, respectively. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the beams and strips are of greater length and the larger square apertures in the lattice thus formed are subdivided by further weaker beams and channel-section strips, respectively. The structure may include projections 18 for location of floor slabs and flanges 19 for location of cladding material. (For Figure see next page)
