1310082 Gold based alloys LEACH & GARNER CO 21 Oct 1971 48892/71 Heading C7A An alloy for cladding electrical wires comprises in weight percent: - 40À0 to 60À0 % gold 9À6 to 14À4 % palladium 4À8 to 7À2 % silver 19À2 to 28À8 % copper 4À8 to 7À2 % nickel 1À6 to to 2À4 % zinc It is particulary preferred to use this cladding alloy on a core compriser of 1À80 to 2À05 % beryllium 0À2 to 0À6 % nickel and/or cobalt the balance being copper and incidental impurities. A barrier metal comprising at least 99% nickel may be incorporated between the core and the cladding. Such clad metal is particularly suited for spring contacts, the cladding forming between 5 and 15% by weight of the composite.
