Abstract
1307519 Train control systems MODULAR ENG PRODUCTS Ltd 27 Feb 1970 [11 March 1969] 12790/69 Heading B7N [Also in Divisions G4 H3 and H4] A remote control system for a toy train comprises a low frequency alternating current source of power and a transmitter TMR for generating bursts of high frequency alternating current, the high frequency bursts controlling the duration or duration and direction of unidirectional current flow derived from the low frequency alternating current to control a motor M in the remote train or car. The low frequency alternating current source is connected to the primary P of a transformer and several transmitters having different frequencies may have their outputs connected in series using a link LK to provide several channels. The output O, which consists of the low frequency alternating current signal and bursts of high frequency alternating current whose phase (i.e. leading edge) relative to the former signal may be adjusted by a switch SW1 and a variable resistor RV1, is connected to rails R of a model railway track. The high frequency signal is detected by an LC circuit to switch on SCR1 or SCR2 depending on the position of the switch SW1, thus causing the rectified low frequency alternating current signal to energize motor M and drive the train forwards or backwards at a speed dependent on the width of the high frequency bursts i.e. dependent on the setting of the variable resistor RV1. In a modification the high frequency signal is fed to a conductor surrounding the track, the signal being inductively coupled to the train driving circuit and the low frequency signal being applied directly to the circuit.
