Abstract

1307283 Herbicides TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 12 March 1970 11901/70 Heading A5E Herbicidal compositions comprise, as the (or an) active ingredient, a compound of formula (I) wherein R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or alkyl, X is oxygen or sulphur, Y is halogen, C 1-5 alkyl, C 1-5 alkxoy or nitro, and k is zero or an integer from 1 to 5, together with a carrier or diluent therefor. The compositions may also contain (1) a phenoxy fatty acid, or salt or ester thereof represented by formula (II) wherein A is C 1-5 alkylene, Y<SP>2</SP> is chlorine or methyl, M is hydrogen, alkali metal, C 1-5 alkyl or C 1-5 alkenyl, and m is zero or an integer from 1 to 5; (2) a 3,4-dichloroanilide represented by formula (III) wherein R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP>, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or C 1-5 alkyl; (3) a compound of formula (IV) wherein Y<SP>3</SP> is chlorine or C @-5 alkylthio, R<SP>4</SP> is C 1-5 alkyl, and R<SP>5</SP> is azido or C 1-5 alkylamino: or (4) a compound of formula (V) wherein Y<SP>4</SP> is halogen or halogen-substituted C 1-5 alkyl, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP>, which may be the same or different, are C 1-5 alkyl or C 1-5 alkoxy, and n denotes zero, or 1 or 2. The compound of formula (I) may be 2 - (2 - chlorobenzylthio) - 5 - ethyl - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole, 2 - (2 - chlorobenzylthio) 5 - (n - propyl) - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole, 2 - (4 - chlorobenzylthio) - 5 - ethyl - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole, or 2 - (4 - chlorobenzylthio) - 5 - (n - propyl) - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole; the compound of formula (II) may be 2 - methyl - 4 - chlorophenoxyacetic acid ethyl ester; the compound of formula (IV) may be 2 - methylthio - 4,6 -bis - (ethylamino) - 1,3,5 - triazine or 2 - methylthio - 4,6 - bis - (ethylamino) - 1,3,5 - triazine and the compound of formula (V) may be 3 - (3 - chloro - 4 - bromophenyl) - 1 - methyl - 1 - methoxy urea or 3 - (3 - chloro - 4 - bromophenyl) - 1 - methyl - 1 - methoxy urea. The compositions may be in the form of solutions, emulsions, wettable powders, dusts, tablets, granules, aerosols or ointments. The compositions may also contain other herbicides, plant growth regulators such as germicides (e.g. copper, organic chlorine, organic sulphur and phenolic germicides), insecticides (such as organic chlorine, organic phosphorus and natural insecticides), acaricides, synergists, attractants, repellants, perfumes and fertilizers.
